After the bagpipes, the lute, the accordion and the tuba, FIMU is giving pride of place to the harp this year. By celebrating one instrument each year we can look at its development and the transformations it has undergone in its passage through time. These veritable moments of human and cultural history have defined FIMU, the International Festival of University Music, for nearly a quarter of a century. It is a gathering of cultures from around the world through invited groups composed of amateur musicians from schools of music, universities and organisations in 30 countries. This is the very essence of FIMU which brings together in this 24th event music from Asia, America, Africa and, of course, Europe. This blend of cultures and music gives the event a particular feel, enthralling musicians, organisers and public as one. Such alchemy and complicity explain this long association. This year everything is in place once again to ensure that all promises are kept. My thanks go to the organisers, the City of Belfort's centre of music and students within the region, through COM'ET and UTBM, for their skill and availability. Thank you to the musical groups which are treating us to their presence and their performances. And thank you to the city's many departments for their involvement and efficiency. Finally, thank you to our partners, both public and private, for their precious and loyal assistance. I wish you wonderful musical experiences during this programme. Etienne BUTZBACH
