Every year at the Whitsun week-end, the
Belfort Town Council organizes the FIMU - International
University Music Festival - together
with a number of college student partners.
At the FIMU over 2,500 student musicians and
chorists have a chance to give a public performance
and thus make their talent known.
The students may represent a school or they
may just be a bunch of friends who love music
and meet at the Festival for a bit of fun.
More than 138 bands or orchestras entered
the FIMU in 2008. Their music schools or their
universities were located in 35 differents
countries : Germany, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Burkina Faso,
Canada, Chine, Cuba, Spain,
Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, East Jerusalem, Arab Kingdom,
Madagascar, Morocco, Mexico, Moldavia, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia,
Slovenia, Switzerland, Turkey, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
The FIMU is also an opportunity for musicians
to meet a wider audience. The estimated
number of visiters for 2008 was 80,000.
The Old Town is a privileged site for this gathering,
with 15 indoor or outdoor venues like
the Cathedral, the Town Hall, the Bandstand,
the Choregraphic Center or the theater…
With free admission to all concerts, families
and music lovers can enjoy an « à la carte
musical » programme.
All French and foreign musicians can enter
the Festival. Bands must be mostly students
or music school members or amateur musicians.
The Festival welcomes all music repertoires :
classical, contemporary, jazz, present music,
traditional, pop...
Terms of Agreement
Bands who wish to enter are to send us their
application form by the 10th January 2009,
together with photographs of the musicians
for our catalogue and a recording for our
selection committee to test the quality and
style of their music. The selection committee
will make their decision in February. Applicants
are then notified.
The Festival covers all of the musicians’ room
and board expenses during their stay in
Belfort.
The Festival may cover some settlement of the
musicians’ travel expenses to Belfort. This is
discussed by the Festival authorities and the
musicians. This payment varies with the type
of transport planned and the total budget.
The musicians will be notified before they
leave for Belfort.
